Quick answer: our top pick is EVIQO NACS 48 A (hardwired) (NACS · 48 A / 11.5 kW · hardwired · UL & ETL).
Which home charger for the Rivian R2? Plan for one, because Rivian sells it separately
The Rivian R2 has a native NACS port, the Tesla-style plug, so it charges at Tesla Superchargers and on NACS home chargers without an adapter. What it doesn't come with by default is a way to charge at home. Rivian adds the Portable Charger, the Wall Charger and the charging adapters to your order as options, or sells them later in its Gear Shop.
Rivian's own NACS Wall Charger delivers 48 A, or 11.5 kW, which Rivian says adds up to 38 miles of range per hour to an R2. Any certified 48 A NACS charger does the same job. If you only have an outlet, a 32 A portable charger on a NEMA 14-50 outlet adds about 25 miles per hour by Rivian's figure for its own unit.
What Rivian charges for each piece
On Rivian's Gear Shop the NACS Wall Charger costs $800 and the NACS Portable Charger $400. The Portable Charger is rated at 32 A and 7.6 kW and comes with NEMA 5-15 and NEMA 14-50 adapters and an 18 ft cord. The J1772 AC adapter costs $50 and the CCS1 DC adapter $200.
RivianTrackr reports one exception. Customers who register a new R2 in California, Colorado, DC, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington get the Portable Charger and both adapters at a discount equal to their price. Everywhere else you pay for them, so it pays to compare.
Fun fact: Rivian put more than 68,000 R2 reservations on the books within 24 hours of the March 2024 reveal, according to Wikipedia, and public deliveries began on June 9, 2026.
48 A, 40 A or portable: matching the charger to your garage
A hardwired 48 A charger matches what Rivian's own Wall Charger delivers. It needs a dedicated 60 A, 240 V circuit and a licensed electrician, and it is the fastest way to refill the R2 overnight. A plug-in 40 A charger goes into a NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 50 A circuit and gives about 9.6 kW, close enough for most daily driving.
A portable 32 A charger covers road trips and second homes. For public charging, two adapters are worth keeping in the frunk: a J1772 adapter for the many Level 2 stations that still use that plug, and a CCS1 adapter for fast chargers such as Electrify America.
We picked chargers with a native NACS plug and UL or ETL certification listed by the maker, none rated above the 48 A of Rivian's own wall unit, plus adapters from Lectron.
Recommended home chargers for the Rivian R2
1. EVIQO NACS 48 A (hardwired)
NACS · 48 A / 11.5 kW · hardwired · UL & ETL
A hardwired Level 2 charger for a dedicated 60 A, 240 V circuit, delivering up to 48 A (about 11.5 kW). The app sets the current from 6 to 48 A and tracks energy use, the cable is 25 ft, and EVIQO lists UL and ETL certification. A licensed electrician installs it.
2. ChargePoint HomeFlex NACS (NEMA 14-50)
NACS · NEMA 14-50 plug · UL · app
The plug-in HomeFlex with a NACS connector: it goes into a 240 V NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 40 A or 50 A circuit. ChargePoint quotes about 30 miles of range per hour, and the app handles schedules and charging history. UL certified, for indoor or outdoor mounting.

4. Lectron J1772 to NACS adapter
J1772 to NACS · 80 A · TÜV + UL 2251
Lets a NACS car plug into the many public and workplace Level 2 stations that still have a J1772 connector. Rated for 240 V and up to 80 A, IP67, with TÜV and UL 2251 certification per Lectron. Small enough for the glove box.
5. Lectron CCS1 to NACS adapter
CCS1 to NACS · DC up to 500 A · UL 2252
Lets a NACS car use CCS1 fast chargers such as Electrify America. Lectron rates it for up to 500 A and 1,000 V, lists UL 2252 certification with built-in thermal protection, and names Rivian among the NACS cars it fits. An IP67 body survives rain and dust.
A word on fast-charging adapters
A CCS1-to-NACS adapter carries a lot of current, so certification matters. In a test reported by EVChargingStations, an older adapter made before the UL 2252 standard melted a pin while fast-charging an R2, while a Lectron adapter used in the same tests only slowed the charge to keep its temperature down. The same report notes that Lectron supplies Rivian's own adapters. Pick a UL 2252 adapter and expect it to throttle in long, hot sessions.
Fun fact: before deliveries started, Rivian validated the R2 in temperatures from -45°F to 122°F, according to the company.
